COlabs + Bordalo II : 'Bordalo Rising' by COlabs
Experimental / Los Angeles Artists 3:12
Filmmakers in PERSON!
'Froehlicher Tucan' is a large scale installation created by world renowned Portuguese visual artist Bordalo II. The ‘trashart’ sculpture is composed entirely of discarded materials: car bumpers, tires, hoods and hubcaps, a bicycle frame, an ironing board, even a mirrorless disco ball were amongst items salvaged to give the toucan its shape. 'Froehlicher Tucan' was conceived and executed in less than 72 hours, including the sourcing of materials on the outskirts of Berlin. The installation is part of Bordalo II's trash animals series—a set of sculptures designed to raise awareness regarding the environmental impact of human excess. Animals are used as the subject to represent a facet of the natural world being impacted and displaced by modern day waste.

She gathers all the strength left in her and walks down the stairs with anticipation.

Brian, is 11 years old and failing socially in his neighborhood. In 1977, being slightly on the autistic spectrum just means you're weird and a target. He is repeatedly beat up and abused by a bully. Meanwhile his mother, Helen, doesn't fit into her role of housewife and mother either as she struggles with the stresses of being at home and raising three kids completely on her own. As the two stories come together, Helen finds herself by helping her son stand up for himself in the only way that makes sense to her. Regardless of what 'proper' society thinks of it.

Scalamare by Jiri Kylian
Short Drama 10:00
VFX Supervisor Jason Akira Somma in Person!
In 2015, I was invited to the Cinematica festival in Ancona. While I was there, I was taken to the Monumento ai Caduti, with its impressive stairs leading straight down into the Adriatic sea. I found this very telling and symbolic and decided to make a short film inspired by these impressions. The film’s plot was simple, too: a couple who has been together for forty years are celebrating the anniversary of their honeymoon, which started on these very steps. So here they are again, forty years later, on the same spot, looking back at their lives, trying to come to terms with it, and trying to look into their very short and unsure future. With tears and laughter, humour and sarcasm, they try to re-enact some of the moments they shared in the past. The celebration of their honeymoon starts to turn into a hallucination, an illusion in which the line between reality and fantasy no longer exists. Only the abstract shadows bare silent witness to this scene.

A woman tired of second-rate treatment on social media finds herself in a morbid situation that just might change her followers count for the better.

"Special" explores the depths of how despicable a person might become just to have a few more likes and how far a person might go just to feel special. "Special" is also a hybrid musical because its just more fun that way.

Poppy Ackroyd is a British post-classical composer.
Her main instruments are the piano and the violin, but she doesn’t treat them in a classical way.
She creates her pieces by sampling sounds, beats and rhythms she generates by tapping the housing and strings of her instruments. She loops and records them, successively adding further layers of sound, until a new orchestral space is achieved. She completes this by adding the clean sound of a classical piano.
This process has inspired the narration of my film.
